The Field Museum of Delhi

The Field Museum is a museum that features some of the oldest relics to have been found around Delhi. This museum is devoted to the display of the great history of Delhi. Much of this involves the history of the Purana Qila.

The Purana Qila, which is better known as the Old Fort, was a critical citadel that was used as a notable marker for the Mughal Empire. This area was excavated during the middle part of the twentieth century. A large variety of artifacts that have been excavated from the area during this time have been put on display at the Field Museum.

This Field museum of Delhi is even located in the middle of the Purana Quila area. It is located at the main gate of the purana qila complex. This gate can be found east of the India Gate and to the north of Humayun's Tomb. It is around the Nizamuddin Railway Station.ADS_TO_REPLACE_1

Some of the artifacts that are on display here are ones that prove the existence of one of the ancient cities of Delhi on the site of the Old Fort. Indraprastha, an ancient city known for being the first city of Delhi, was found to be located on this area during the excavations. The area is believed to have been in existence about three thousand years ago. This is when many of the different artifacts in the area are dated from.

Most of these older materials are simple pottery materials. This includes Painted Grey Ware pottery that was found during the Iron Age of that time. These materials have provided people with enough evidence to suggest that the first city of the area was situated around here.

Other artifacts from different periods around this time include red sandstone wares and other kinds of coins. These include items from the Kushan and Rajput eras. These features are proof that the area around the Purana Qila has been used for years.

A few other items have been found around the area. These items are also being preserved in the Field Museum of New Delhi.
