  1. Comparison of VoIP Service Providers
Voice over IP service providers act as a directory service, enabling VoIP users to call one another without necessarily knowing their IP address (although IP based dialling is also possible). There are a few different VoIP protocols in use, with SIP and H.323 being the most common. The hardware we sell is usable with the service providers listed on this page as using the SIP protocol. On this page, we have an extensive (but not necessarily complete) list of VoIP service providers that we know about and/or have tried ourselves. The providers are listed in two groups: free providers, and paid providers. All providers can be rated by users, and if you would like to discuss about any of the providers, feel free to do it in our SIP service provider forum.

  2. VoIP Providers
If you wish to make calls over the internet, then you will need to sign up with a VoIP provider. You can access a list of Australian VoIP providers at either of these sites: www.ozinternetphones.com, or www.voipchoice.com.au, however check with each of the providers rather than relying purely on the info provided on these sites as when providers update their prices, the sites can become a little out of date. Search around a little as you will find providers that offer prices such as 1c/min nation wide, 10c flat rate nation wide, free calls to specified countries, or cheap rates to other countries. Note that some hardware such as the SPA-3000 will allow you to use multiple VoIP providers, with rules set for which VoIP provider a call will go through defined by the type of call dialled.

  4. VoIP Services Provides Resource
VoIP providers come in several different varieties. VoIP providers include free VoIP, business, consumer, cable and satellite service providers. The VoIP providers listed below are just some of the many companies currently offering services. Not all VoIP providers are the same, so you'll need to find out which services work well for you for your particular needs. Skype is perhaps the most well-known of the VoIP service providers. Skype offers free peer-to-peer calling with other Skype software users and low-cost PC to landline or cellphone calls as well. Earthlink also offers free online calling and became the first major ISP to do so. The service is based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and is available to all 1.2 million EarthLink High Speed access subscribers. See our free VoIP page for more details.

  5. VoIP Solution
Voice over Internet Protocol  is the routing of voice conversations over the Internet or through any other IP-based network. A typical analog telephone adapter for connecting an ordinary phone to a VoIP network Protocols used to carry voice signals over the IP network are commonly referred to as Voice over IP or VoIP protocols. They may be viewed as commercial realizations of the experimental Network Voice Protocol (1973) invented for the ARPANET. In general, phone service via VoIP is free or costs less than equivalent service from traditional sources but similar to alternative PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) service providers. Some cost savings are due to using a single network to carry voice and data, especially where users have existing under-utilized network capacity they can use for VoIP at no additional cost. VoIP to VoIP phone calls on any provider are typically free, whilst VoIP to PSTN calls generally costs the VoIP user.
