Meghalaya is situated in the mountainous regions of Himalayas, so there is lack of railway network in Meghalaya. The nearest major railway station is Guwahati of Assam that is 104 k.m. away from Meghalaya's capital Shillong. The state is well connected with road networks and national highway 40 passes through Shillong connecting to Guwahati. The Bus and taxi services are available to go to the other parts of the country.
How to Reach Meghalaya by Air
You can reach Meghalaya by air too. There is a small airport at Umroi, 35 k.m. away from Shillong where Boeing Air Alliances Flights (50 seats) operate on this route that connects Shillong to Kolkata and Jorhat. Another most convenient airport is located in Guwahati, Assam, from where you can enter easily into Meghalaya.
