One of the top museums for art to visit when in Delhi is the National Gallery of Modern Art. This is a museum that features an impressive variety of artwork from many centuries. It is a beautiful museum for people to visit when in Delhi.

The National Gallery of Modern Art was first established in 1954. It was founded by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the Vice President of India at the time and eventually the future President of India in the 1960s. The museum was set up at the Jaipur House. This is the house that the Maharajas of Jaipur had originally lived in for a period of time.

Today it is located at the southeastern part of the India Gate in Delhi. It has grown to where it features several different paintings.

Today there are a little over 150 paintings on display at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi. These include a variety of paintings from many historic painters of India. These include such popular painters as Jamini Roy, Nandalal Bose, Amrita Sher-Gil and Rabindranath Tagore among many others. The goal of the museum is to promote the history of Indian artwork and to showcase its great evolution over the years.

Some of the most notable paintings at the National Gallery of Modern Art are ones from Thomas Daniell. He was a British artist who worked in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. A series of paintings from William Daniell, Thomas' nephew, are also featured here.

A full reserve collection is also being held at the museum. This is being well maintained for future display purposes and to ensure that all items in the collection are to be protected. This is so many future generations can enjoy the many paintings that the museum has to offer.

A full reference library is also included here. This library is home to several different journals and books on artwork.

A garden is also featured at the National Gallery of Modern Art. This includes a series of small sculptures in a serene setting. It is located at the back part of the gallery.

Some special events are held throughout the year. There are many special traveling art shows that come to the museum every year. In fact, in 2010 an exhibit of sculptures from Anish Kapoor was featured at the National Gallery of Modern Art. Other exhibits that have come to the museum included contemporary photography exhibits, an exhibit on early Indian photography and an exhibit devoted to Nicholas Roerich among many other special events.

A theatre that shows films on artists is also included here. Many of the films that are shown were made by the gallery itself. These include some films that are about many of the artists featured at the gallery.

Educational functions are also held here. These include a number of classes on Indian artwork. There are even art workshops for children here. These are held during the summer months for the most part.

The museum has expanded in recent years to include many new features. It includes a brand new auditorium, library and cafeteria. There is also a new museum shop that features hundreds of books, posters and postcards. These all feature replicas of the many pieces of art that are featured at the museum.

This is a great art museum that truly shows the history of Indian art. The National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi is a place that features many great pieces of art from some of the most notable artists in the history of India. It also features many events and services that allow people to learn more about artwork.
