National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi
India is a country which brings forth a rich heritage of art and culture. From ages universities like Taxila, Ujjaini and Nalanda has veered the course of Indian art movement. There are various institutes and galleries in India which proclaim their richness in art and their dominance over various styles and genres. This modern art movement in the early 20th century was pioneered by Rabindranath Tagore's Vishwabharati in Shanti Niketan. Later, various art schools and galleries contributed to this art movement, one of them was 'National gallery of Modern Art'.
The National gallery of Modern Art was first set up in Delhi, which has collection of paintings great artists including Jamini Roy, Rabindranath Tagore, Raja Ravi Verma, Nandalal Bose, Amrita Shergill, and Thomas Duellin etc. The idea of this art institute was mooted in 1949 and inaugurated in 1954 in the presence of notable people like Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Vice President S. Radhakrishnan.
Delhi: National gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) located in Delhi was first set up in "Jaipur House" (House of Maharaja of Jaipur) at Rajpath near India Gate. The establishment was first designed by Arthur Bloomfield. The complex had been enlarged with respect to time and new facilities are introduced like museum, new auditorium, cafeteria, preview theatre, conservation laboratory etc. German art intellectual Mr. Hermann Goetz became the first curator of this art gallery.
Activities of National Gallery of Modern Art of Delhi
Exhibitions and Events held in National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi: NGMA organizes various exhibitions at different part of the year regarding various occasions and festivals. These exhibitions had not only confined themselves in different types of paintings but they had made their way into the new dimensions of art which includes photography, sculpture etc. These exhibitions welcome different school of arts from all over the country. Not only artists from India participate in these exhibitions but notable artists from foreign countries also contribute their works here. The notable paintings are kept in the showcase of the museum.
Other than art exhibitions various other events are also organized by these institutions which include various ceremonies, contents, auctions etc. Various art seminars are held in this gallery in the presence of some notable art intellectuals.
Courses at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi: The , Delhi also offers various academic art courses which helps students to know about various styles and genres of art and practice them. "To develop education and knowledge in order to maintain, acquire and preserve works of modern art" is one of the significant objectives of NGMA.
Stores inside the National Gallery of Modern Art premise: The Shop of NGMA helps in auctioning various painting at a high price. The shop sells various arts and crafts, which includes greeting cards, picture post cards, catalogues and monologues, portfolios .souvenir items etc. These shop publications display various specimen of this institute.

Bangalore National Gallery Of Modern Art: In Bangalore NGMA was set in 2006 near Jawaharlal Nehru planetarium after a lot of controversies. It includes almost all similar features present in Delhi NGMA. The gallery in Bangalore contains arts of both contemporary and ancient artists. Other than paintings there are various designs and sculptures of various artisans.
Mumbai National Gallery Of Modern Art: In 1996 NGMA was set in Mumbai at Colaba. The NGMA centre in Mumbai is the only centre, where we found paintings of the great contemporary artist Pablo Picasso. It also has museum where various form of arts are displayed chronologically.
