The Field Museum of Delhi
The Field Museum is a museum that features some of the oldest relics to have been found around Delhi. This museum is devoted to the display of the great history of Delhi. Much of this involves the history of the Purana Qila.
The Purana Qila, which is better known as the Old Fort, was a critical citadel that was used as a notable marker for the Mughal Empire. This area was excavated during the middle part of the twentieth century. A large variety of artifacts that have been excavated from the area during this time have been put on display at the Field Museum.
This Field museum of Delhi is even located in the middle of the Purana Quila area. It is located at the main gate of the purana qila complex. This gate can be found east of the India Gate and to the north of Humayun's Tomb. It is around the Nizamuddin Railway Station.
Some of the artifacts that are on display here are ones that prove the existence of one of the ancient cities of Delhi on the site of the Old Fort. Indraprastha, an ancient city known for being the first city of Delhi, was found to be located on this area during the excavations. The area is believed to have been in existence about three thousand years ago. This is when many of the different artifacts in the area are dated from.
Most of these older materials are simple pottery materials. This includes Painted Grey Ware pottery that was found during the Iron Age of that time. These materials have provided people with enough evidence to suggest that the first city of the area was situated around here.
Some items from periods of time between this era and the construction of the Purana Qila can be found in the area. Some artifacts from the Sunga period from 2200 years ago are featured here. The artifacts are mostly coins from that period. These were all found here.
Other artifacts from different periods around this time include red sandstone wares and other kinds of coins. These include items from the Kushan and Rajput eras. These features are proof that the area around the Purana Qila has been used for years.
A few other items have been found around the area. These items are also being preserved in the Field Museum of New Delhi. Many of these are items that dated back to the Mughal era when the Purana Qila had been developed and constructed. The items from this period are predominantly from the sixteenth century.
The items that were found around here and have been placed on display are impressively varied. There are such items as sculptures, wine bottles and several other kinds of artifacts from the era.
Some of the porcelain that was found in the area came from China. This includes porcelain figures with some impressive and well detailed designs that make them more unique than other items.
It is easy to enter the museum. People who go to the Purana Qila will be able to get into the Field Museum while visiting the area. This can be visited from Saturdays to Thursdays. People will have to pay money to get into the area as a means of helping the support efforts to conserve and protect the area. However, it only costs Rs. 100 for a person outside India to get into the area.
The Field Museum at the Purana Qila is a beautiful place to visit in Delhi. This is an important place that covers the history of the area around the Purana Qila. It shows just how deep the history of the area is.
