It holds more than 30% of the mobile OS market share currently and develops the widely popular operating system for the S60 Nokia phones. Symbian turned into an open-source mobile platform in June 2008, when the Symbian Foundation was formed by combining S60, UIQ and MOAP(S). Nokia acquired the Symbian Foundation in December 2008 thus giving a much-needed boost and vital funds to the free software movement. In the last ten years of Symbian's existence more than 14 mobile manufacturers have adopted the Symbian OS, including the Symbian S60 OS, in more than 250 millions mobile devices world over.
