Guadeloupe is an overseas territory of France situated in Leeward Islands. It is a group of islands. It includes the islands of Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre and some smaller islands. Being a part of France, it is politically associated with the European union. Christopher Columbus found these islands in 1493.

A part of the island is mountainous and there are also some low-lying plains found. Rolling hills are found in Grande-Terre. Guadeloupe is also prone to hurricanes. Hurricanes caused in 1998, 1995, 1964 and number of times before that has caused a lot of damage to life and property.

The climate in Guadeloupe is tropical time with hot and humid summers. The temperature though is moderated by the trade winds coming from the ocean. About 30 square kilometers of land is suitable for agriculture and farming.
