JSP URL Encoding

JSP URL Encoding is used to encode the url in JSP. URL Encoding is the process of converting string into valid URL format. The valid URL format means that the URL contains alpha, digit, extra, escape characters.

Understand with Example

In this section you will learn how to encode the url in jsp. You can see in the given example that we have defined an URL i.e. http://www.roseindia.net" in order to encode it. For this, we have used the method encode(url.toString(),"UTF-8") of class URLEncoder. This will translates a string into application/x-www-form-urlencoded format. When an url is encoded, the alphanumeric characters (a-z,A-Z,0-9) and the special characters(".", "-", "*", "_") remains the same but the space character " " is converted to + sign. In case an exception occurred, the catch caught the exception and print the exception.

Here is the code of urlEncode.jsp

<%@ page import="java.net.*" %>
<%
URL url = new URL("http://www.roseindia.net");
try{
String encodedurl = URLEncoder.encode(url.toString(),"UTF-8");
out.println(encodedurl);
}catch(Exception e){
out.println(e);
}
%>

Output will be displayed as:
