Java Subtracting Time Span

In this example java program we have subtracted
the two time spans with the use of add() method of Calendar class which
is available in the java.util package. We can subtract the time spans
with the use of add() method which takes two arguments, first is the field
and another is amount and if we will be providing negative integer value
it automatically subtracts the given amount accordingly.
In our java program we have created an object of
Calendar by calling constructor of GregorianCalendar with the date 10
October 2008. Now suppose we want to subtract 2 Months in this time span with
the use of add() method . This can be done as follows:
calendar.add(Calendar.MONTH,-2);
Where Calendar.MONTHS represents integer value for
Months. add() method automatically does the rolling according to the
calendar addition or subtraction.
Here is the example code of SubtractTimeSpan.java
as follows:
SubtractTimeSpan.java
import java.text.*;
import java.util.Calendar;
import java.util.GregorianCalendar;
public class SubtractTimeSpan
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
// set calendar to 10 Oct 2008
Calendar calendar = new GregorianCalendar(2008,Calendar.OCTOBER,10);
System.out.println("Before Subtracting date is: ");
SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("d-MMMM-yyyy hh:mm");
System.out.println(formatter.format(calendar.getTime()));
System.out.println("Subtracting 2 Months ");
// subtract
2 Months
calendar.add(Calendar.MONTH,-2);
// Printing date before
2 Months
System.out.println("After Subtracting date is: ");
formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("d-MMMM-yyyy hh:mm");
System.out.println(formatter.format(calendar.getTime()));
}
}

Output:
C:\DateExample>javac SubtractTimeSpan.java
C:\DateExample>java SubtractTimeSpan
Before Subtracting date is:
10-October-2008 12:00
Subtracting 2 Months
After Subtracting date is:
10-August-2008 12:00 |
