Tokelau is located at the geographical coordinates of 9 South and 172 West. The country covers only an area of 12 square kilometres on earth that makes it the 4th smallest country in the world. Also a population of just over 1100 makes it the 3rd least populated country in the world. Tokelau is made up of three coral atolls, Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo. Nukunonu is the capital of the country. Majority of the population also lives in Nukunonu, which also happens to be its largest city.

Tokelau also claims that Olohega, which is under United States at present, is a part of the Tokelau. Though a territory of New Zealand, the time zones of New Zealand and Tokelau are different. Economy of Tokelau is the smallest in the world.

International sport organisations do not recognize the country of Tokelau as its member. Thus, there are hardly any participations by Tokelau in international sporting events. However, Tokelau Games are held every year in the country in which more than half of the country's population takes part. There is rugby, netball and various other sports along with the traditional song and dance routines in that event.
