Reunion Islands is a French overseas Territory located in the Indian Ocean. It is a group of islands, which are volcanic in origin. These islands were first discovered by the Arab traders. They were conquered by Portuguese Kingdom, who ruled it for close to a century. French replaced Portuguese in the 17th century. Since then it has been an overseas department of French.

The islands are spread over s small area of 2,512 square kilometres and a population of 827,000 lives in the country. These islands are located to the east of Madagascar, which is the closest land to the islands. Geologically same to the Hawaiian Volcanoes, Piton de la Fournaise is a shield volcano that elevates to a peak of 8632 feet. This volcano is monitored constantly because of its frequent eruptions. To the north of it, lies the most elevated peak of Reunion called the Piton des Neiges at a height of 10070 feet. White-tailed Tropicbird, a unique variety of birds, is found in these islands
