Peru shares its boundaries with Chile in the south, Bolivia in the southeast, Brazil in the east and Ecuador and Columbia in the north. Pacific Ocean flows to the west of the country. Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru.

Peru is divided into three geographical regions of costa, sierra and selva, which are characterized by coasts, highlands and rainforests respectively. Huascarán, at a height of 22,205 feet, is the most elevated peak in the country. Though Peru is near to the equator, the climate is more of moderate type in the coasts while the highland regions are colder.

The people of Peru have adopted the culture of Amerindians and Spanish. Literature and the folk form of dance form the core of Peru's culture.
