The largest country in Central America, Nicaragua was under the rule of the Spanish empire until it gained independence in 1821. It is a country with a multiethnic population though its culture is mainly influenced by the Spanish.

Located at the geographical coordinates of 13° North and 85° West, Nicaragua is spanned over an area of 130,373 square kilometres. The population of 5,891,199 people lives in the country according to the 2010 census. Nicaragua is surrounded by Caribbean waters in the east and Pacific Ocean in the west. Managua is the capital and the largest city of the country.

The topography of Nicaragua is dominated by three geographical sections namely, the Amerrique Mountains, Mosquito Coast and the Pacific Lowlands. Pico Mogoton at a height of 6,913 feet is the most elevated peak in the country. Lake Nicaragua and the Lake Managua are the largest lakes that flow in the west part of the country.

There is a little variation the temperature of Nicaragua from season to season. The climate mostly remains warm and humid throughout the year. Rainfall though, moderates the climate as it is experienced in abundance.

Economy of Nicaragua depends on Agriculture to a large extent. Tourism off-late has turned into a big industry and has been generating large revenues for the country. Apart from that, forestry and fishing play a key role towards development of the economy.
