The Republic of Macedonia is landlocked country in the central Balkan Peninsula of Southeast Europe. This country is swamped by beautiful lakes and huge mountains that rise to a height of more than 2000 metres. Independent from Yugoslavia since 1991, it became a member of United Nations in 1993.

The scenic mountains of Macedonia include the Sar Mountain range and the Osogovo-Belasica chain. While the former is a part of Pelagonia group of mountains, the latter forms Macedonia's border with Bulgaria. The Aegean Basin drains 87% of the territory of the Republic.
The climatic conditions in Macedonia are of continental type. The hottest months are July and August when temperature rises to more than 40° C. winters on the other hand are milder and more pleasant.
Macedonia's economy has been growing since independence. Tourism has been the backbone of the growing economy. Football is the favourite sport followed by Macedonians.
