Colonized by American slaves in the 19th century, Liberia is an African country located on Africa's West coast. Liberia is spanned over an area of 111,369 square kilometres. The geographical coordinates of Liberia are 6.5 North and 9.5 West. A population of 3,955,000 lives in the country according to the 2009 census. Marred by civil wars and political instability, Liberia is one of the poorest countries in the world. The global recession in 2009 further dipped its economy. It is trying to get back on its feet with the rubber and oil exports to the outside world for generating revenues. The art and craft works in Liberia give a unique identification to the culture of the country. More and more schools and colleges are being established to that the standard of education is raised in the country.
