Falkland Islands are a group of islands located in South Atlantic Ocean. This island is divided into East Falkland and West Falkland. East Falkland is home to the capital of Falkland Islands, Stanley.

Falkland Islands were a bone of contention between England and Argentina for a long time until British took over completely in 1982. At present it is in the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories.

Falkland Islands are spread over a total area of 12,173 square kilometers and reside a population of around 3,140 according to 2008 census. The geographical coordinates of Falkland Islands are 51.75° South and 59° West. The Falkland Sound separates the two islands of East Falkland and West Falkland. East Island is the more populous of the two. The military base at Mount Pleasant is situated at East Falkland. Mount Usborne at a height of 2313 feet is the most elevated peak in the islands.

Falkland Islands are home to a wide variety of animals, insects, fish and plants. Zebra trout, Falklands minnows and Lobster krill are some of the fishes and krill found in the freshwaters of this island.

Falkland islands experience a Maritime Sub arctic climate moderated by trade winds flowing from South Atlantic Ocean. In summer, temperature might reach up to 18° C while in winters the average temperature is 4° C. East Falkland recieves a higher rainfall than West Falkland.
