Discovered by Portuguese in the 15th century, Cape Verde is an archipelago of ten islands. With the coordinates of 16 00 North and 24 00 West, Cape Verde is located right in the center of Atlantic Ocean.

A population of around 567,000 people inhabits Cape Verde, which is spread over an area of 4033 square kilometers. In this island of volcanic origin, Pico do Fogo is the largest active volcano. The largest city of Cape Verde, Praia is also its capital city and a major exporter of coffee, sugar and cane. Igneous rocks, Plutonic rocks and the volcanic rocks constitute for most of the volume. Other geographical features include the banana and sugarcane plantations in the regions of Santiago and Santo Antao. Maio and Sal are home to the salt flats produced. Some beautiful rock formations have been produced from the sand carrying winds to islands.

The climate in Cape Verde is milder than rest of Africa as the temperature is moderated by the winds blowing from the Sea. The inhabitants experience little variation in temperature of different seasons. Average temperatures oscillate between 30° C and 25° C.

Home to some beautiful beaches, Cape Verde has been attracting tourists in small numbers. The tourists love to stroll on the beaches and indulge in some of the favorite sports of the island like football.
