Syria, officially known as Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia. Syria is an Islamic nation. Number of military coups and emergency law has caused instability and insecurity among the citizens of the country. The government of the country is non democratic.

Syria is located at the geographical coordinates of 35 North and 38 East. It is spanned over an area of 185,180 square kilometres. A population of 22,457,763 according to 2011 census makes it the 53rd most populous country in the world. Syria shares its boundaries with Israel in the southwest, Jordan in the South, Turkey in the north, Iraq in the east and Lebanon and Mediterranean Sea in the west. Damascus is the capital of the country while Aleppo is its largest city.

Euphrates is a major river of Syria along with the River Orontes. This country is also home to some well known beaches of the world, the most famous of which is Burj Islam. al-Ansariyah mountains are located in the eastern part of the country. Climate in the country is characterized by hot and dry summers. Winters are mild however, some snowfall is also experienced in the winter season.

Economy of Syria is largely driven by agriculture and the oil reserves found in the country. But due to various conflicts going on in the country, the economy has suffered setbacks in the recent past. Efforts are being made to stabilize the conditions and further strengthen the tourism industry of the country.
