Tajikistan is an Asian country located in the central part of the continent. Whilst a massive destruction was caused in the country following the civil war that lasted from 1992 to 1997, Tajikistan has got back on its feet as a result of political stability and some foreign aid that has helped its economy to grow considerably.

Tajikistan is located at the geographical coordinates of 39 North and 71 East. The country is spread over an area of 143,100 square kilometres. The total population in the country is 7,995,754 according to the 2010 estimate. Tajikistan shares its border with the countries like People's Republic of China in the east, Afghanistan in the south, Kyrgyzstan in the south and Uzbekistan in the west. Dushanbe is the capital and the largest city in the country.

The country of Tajikistan is entirely landlocked. Huge mountains dominate the topography of the country. Ismoil Somoni Peak is the most elevated peak in the country at a height of 24,590 feet. Some gorgeous lakes add to the beauty and mystique of Tajikistan. Some of the well known lakes in the country are Lake Kayrakum, Lake Sarez, Lake Zorkul and Lake Iskanderkul among few others.

Although Tajikistan is one of the poorest countries of Asia, the industrial sector and the export industry have been trying stregthen its economy. Tajik Aluminium Company in the country is one of the biggest aluminium plants in the world.
