The smallest island nation in the world, Nauru is located in Micronesia in the South Pacific. Nauru was under the rule of several countries until it gained full independence in 1968. This island country is famous for its phosphate deposits and had been a major exporter of phosphate since the early 20th century.

Located at the geographical coordinates of 0.5333 South and 166.9167 East, Nauru is spread across an area of just 21 square kilometres. Although a country with a population of just around 9.322 according to 2010 estimate, it ranks 23rd on the scale of the most densely populated countries in the world.

Nauru is in the neighbourhood of Banaba Islands of Kiribati. Nauru's central plateau is called Topside and its most elevated peak of this plateau is Command Ridge at a height of 71 metres. The beautiful lake of Buada Lagoon is surrounded by plantations of Pandanus trees, pineapples and tomano trees. The climate in Nauru is subject to sea level changes. The maximum temperature goes up to 35 C.

The depletion of Phosphate resources has had a significant impact on the economy of the country. At present, more than 90% of the youth is unemployed.
