Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1498, Guyana is a sovereign state located on the northern coast of South America. It is a member of Caribbean community and culturally associated with Anglophone Caribbean and the only country in the Caribbean, which is not an island. In the past, Guyana has been colonized by Dutch and British for more than 200 years. Guyana has been an independent country since 1966.

Located at the geographical coordinates of 5° North and 59° West, Guyana is spread over a total area of 214,970 square kilometers. According to 2010 census, it has a population of around 752,940. Georgetown is the Capital and largest city of Guyana.

The low-lying coastal plains are home to a majority of the population. The southern Guyana is packed with dense rainforests. Number of rivers flow through the country. Essequibo and the Courantyne are the biggest rivers. Two majestic waterfalls in the country that are treat to the eyes are King George VI Falls at a height of 488 meters and Kaieteur Falls at a height of 226 meters. These waterfalls lie in the western mountains. Scarlet Macaws is the most beautiful bird found in the country. Tropical type of climate dominates the weather conditions in Guyana. People experience hot and humid temperature with abundant rainfall.

Bauxite mining, agriculture and gold mining are some of the most important occupations in Guyana, which take its economy forward.
