French Polynesia is an archipelago of several Polynesian islands. It is a constituent country of France. French took control of the powers of this island in 1889.

The most populous island of Tahiti in French Polynesia is home to the capital, Papeete. French Polynesia is spanned over an area of 4,167 square kilometers. Located at the geographical coordinates of 15° South and 140° West, it has a population of around 267,000.

The six groups of islands that make up French Polynesia are Marquesas Islands, Society Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago, Gambier Islands, Austral Islands and Bass Islands. Some high mountains as well as some lowlands dominate the geography of this region. A coastline of around 2520 kilometers surrounds French Polynesia. Some of the natural resources found in the French Polynesia islands are cobalt and timber. The inhabitants of this island face tropical type of climate, which is restrained by the trade winds flowing from the ocean. Summers are quite hot and humid but winters are more pleasant. There are some beautiful beaches and landscapes scattered all over, which attract a large number of tourists.

French Polynesia has a sound economy. Though dependent on France to some extent, the natural resources in French Polynesia along with the tourism also generates high revenues.
