how to code-updating some details n some details r unchanged

i have created a page with empty text boxes,details are.... house no: streetname: cityname: pincode:
contact :
bloodgroup :
my requirement is to update the details of user.
and i had written the update query,but with that query all the details are updating... my doubt is-if the user want to change only contact n he want to get the remaining details unchanged,then how to do that..... i know how to update,but how to get the old details as it is if user wont update it.....
