Mysql Else Condition evaluate the statements in database to perform different actions based on different conditions.

Understand with Example

The Tutorial illustrate an example from the 'Mysql Else Condition'.To understand this example we create a function total that accept input parameter.The function include a begin statement that consists of declare variable 'c' and 's' whose datatype is integer and varchar respectively. The set keyword is used to assigned the sum value of variable a and b.The if operator evaluate that if the value of variable 'c' is less than 10,it display 'add is less then 10.Otherwise the loop moves into else condition that display 'add is equal or greater than 10'.

Create Function

DELIMITER $$
create function total (a int, b int) returns varchar(50)
begin
declare c int;
declare s varchar(50);
set c = a + b;
if c < 10 THEN
set s = 'add is less then 10';
ELSE
set s = 'add is equal or greater then 10';
END IF;
RETURN s;
END $$
DELIMITER ;

Select function

The select is used to call the function total that accept two value(10,1),the sum of the value is greater than '10'.The loop moves into ELSE condition and display 'add is equal or greater than 10'.

Select total(10,1);

Result

+---------------------------------+
| total(10,1)                     |
+---------------------------------+
| add is equal or greater then 10 |
+---------------------------------+
