What is CICS?

CICS stands for Customer Information Control System
that is a very powerful transaction processing system. It is most widely used by
financial institutions, colleges and universities, airline reservation systems, insurance companies, ATM systems,
as well as state and national governments. CICS can also perform other important
task like batch job submissions, catalog updating, domain management, and application bridging.
CICS is written in Web-based and incorporate Enterprise Java
Beans language for handling the big number of transaction but is able to
handle small transaction as well. It also provide online batch activity as
well.
CICS was originally developed in the U.S. in 1969 for small and medium mainframe
systems. It can run on various operating system including z/VSE, i5, OS/2, AIX, Linux, Mac OS, and
Windows as well as IBM's 64-bit z/OS.
