For forced garbage collection we can also do:
System.gc();
Posted by vipin on Thursday, 06.14.07 @ 13:26pm | #19192
Garbage collection is automatic as well as it can be forced.
Suppose in your application you want to collect garbage before the collector do it periodically which you may require, then the procedure is this.
Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
runtime.gc();
This will force the collector to collect garbage.
runtime is a instance of the current RunTime.
So please check your answer ...Thanks Vipin

I think its showing an error because you haven't defined the pause() method in class B. Posted by kanivalavn on Tuesday, 01.30.07 @ 15:08pm | #4695
Here in this case of a writting a class we have some rules in using our access modifiers
to give a brief idea abt it.......
We have 3 access modifiers in java and 4 access levels
(ie)private,protected,public r the three access modifiers in java
and private,public,protected,and default r four access levels in java
and the rules in using this access modifiers in java are ...
1)We should not use access modifier private and protected infront of class declaration, so if we use this we can not compile the program
This might be the solution for ur program not compiling
if u have any doubt regarding this issue u can feel free for mailing me

DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST
PURPOSE:
The goal of this exercise is to develop a JAVA version of Puyo-Puyo, a variation of the Tetris game.
We are interested in seeing your code writing skills, style and logic.
Don't hesitate to comment on your code in order to make it as clear as possible.
Please do not browse the web (or any other source of information) to find the code of this program already developed.
Anyway feel free to browse the web to find a playable version of the game for reference.
Purpose of this exercise is to assess the skills and game play implementation ability.
RULES OF GAME:
· Spheres come down from the top of the game board in pairs. A player can rotate them on their way down.
· Spheres come in 4 different colors: red, blue, green, and yellow
· Linking four spheres of the same color (horizontally, vertically or both(as in tetris)) removes them from the game board, allowing any sphere remaining to drop and fill the vacated space.
· This may lead to several possible "chain combos" if additional colors match.
· The game board can be any size you want (we recommend 6x12)
· Note that the pair of spheres are not linked to each other. If one sphere is blocked because there is something underneath, the other one will continue falling (with no player control over it) until it reaches something.
· The Zip Files Contain:
· 4 pictures of the spheres
· A screenshot of the game as it should look
· As stated before, feel free to browse the web to find a playable version of the game for reference if some rules are unclear.
TO SUBMIT:
- Please submit a java console application that will open a window and start the game.
- You may attach a separate text file that documents player controls and any other comments (as gameplay improvements, bugs not corrected, any comment that will help evaluate your submission...)
IMPORTANT:
- JAVA only - Java console application (not an applet)
please code of Puyo-Puyo in java

Hi.....
This is nagesh...
The difference between final,finally & finalize is
final:It is of variable scope,used for declaring the varibales,which when declared the variable is constant through the application.
finally:It is a block written after the try and catch,the code in this block will be executed compulsary,without regarding what u written in try block....this will be most useful when using jdbc connection
finalize:it is used for garbage collection

Question: What is the difference between the instanceof and getclass, these two are same or not ?
Answer: instanceof is a operator, not a function while getClass is a method of java.lang.Object class. Consider a condition where we use
if(o.getClass().getName().equals("java.lang.Math")){ }
This method only checks if the classname we have passed is equal to java.lang.Math. The class java.lang.Math is loaded by the bootstrap ClassLoader. This class is an abstract class.This class loader is responsible for loading classes. Every Class object contains a reference to the ClassLoader that defines. getClass() method returns the runtime class of an object. It fetches the java instance of the given fully qualified type name. The code we have written is not necessary, because we should not compare getClass.getName(). The reason behind it is that if the two different class loaders load the same class but for the JVM, it will consider both classes as different classes so, we can't compare their names. It can only gives the implementing class but can't compare a interface, but instanceof operator can.
The instanceof operator compares an object to a specified type. We can use it to test if an object is an instance of a class, an instance of a subclass, or an instance of a class that implements a particular interface. We should try to use instanceof operator in place of getClass() method. Remember instanceof opeator and getClass are not same. Try this example, it will help you to better understand the difference between the two.
Interface one{
}

Dear Nijel,
answer for How you can force the garbage collection? is wrong. right??
we can force using
System.gc();
and
Runtime.getRuntime().gc();
no i think it is System.gc.Collect();
we have to use the Collect method to call it.

Dear venki (Saturday, 01.27.07 @ 17:02pm | #4488)
your program:
public class A
{
//body of class
}
public static void main(String args[])
{
A a=new a();
a.methodname();
true it will not compile .
try this
A a=new A();
then it will compile.

Dear gulshan(01.2.07 @ 15:51pm | #2420
),
u asked... why we write static in main.
public static void main(string agrs[])
the solution to this question is we can have multiple functions named main in our program of java but the function whichn is having a static is considered as tha main function and exicution statrs from there. we cannot have more than 1 static main function as it will result in a compilation error.

The JVM might execute garbage collection when you run gc command most of the time but it is not garunteed!

Hi! Rama krishna
Your queries has been solved.
Question: what is the class variables ?
Answer: When we create a number of objects of the same class, then each object will share a common copy of variables. That means that there is only one copy per class, no matter how many objects are created from it. Class variables or static variables are declared with the static keyword in a class, but mind it that it should be declared outside outside a class. These variables are stored in static memory. Class variables are mostly used for constants, variable that never change its initial value. Static variables are always called by the class name. This variable is created when the program starts i.e. it is created before the instance is created of class by using new operator and gets destroyed when the programs stops. The scope of the class variable is same a instance variable. The class variable can be defined anywhere at class level with the keyword static. It initial value is same as instance variable. When the class variable is defined as int then it's initial value is by default zero, when declared boolean its default value is false and null for object references. Class variables are associated with the class, rather than with any object.
Question: What is the difference between the instanceof and getclass, these two are same or not ?
Answer: instanceof is a operator, not a function while getClass is a method of java.lang.Object class. Consider a condition where we use
if(o.getClass().getName().equals("java.lang.Math")){ }
This method only checks if the classname we have passed is equal to java.lang.Math. The class java.lang.Math is loaded by the bootstrap ClassLoader. This class is an abstract class.This class loader is responsible for loading classes. We should try to use instanceof operator in place of getClass() method. Remember instanceof opeator and getClass are not same. Try this example, it will help you to better understand the difference between the two.
Interface one{
}
Class Two implements one {
}
Class Three implements one {
}
public class Test {
public static void main(String args[]) {
one test1 = new Two();
one test2 = new Three();
System.out.println(test1 instanceof one); //true
System.out.println(test2 instanceof one); //true
System.out.println(Test.getClass().equals(test2.getClass())); //false
}
}

hai padmaja,
u r asking abt virtual function. in the case of overridding .when u call the base class fuction the dervived class function is called and executed in that if u want to execute the function what u need in that sitution we declare the base class function that is overridded as virtul so the complier understand the function that is to be called at the runtime based on the
type of an object passed rather than the type of the pointer used .
i think padmaja u understand this

hai venkat ,
thread means a program with single flow of control is called thread.for ex if u take main() a thread is created and start exection the statements what u r written in that.
multithread means execution of multi threads at the sametime. this very useful concept i think y bcoz
for ex:
if u take two p1,p2
executing these two threads by using time slicing or priority .so thse two will be done at the same time.
for ex:if two threds are calling the same method
in that sitution dead lock has occurs for avoding this we r using the concept of synchronisation.put the method calling as synchronised.
