Jaipur Literature Festival
Started in the year 2006; the Jaipur Literature Festival is lauded by authors, academicians and intellectuals from different corners of the world. In a very short span of time, this literary festival of Jaipur has carved a niche for itself. Since it commencement, The Diggi Palace Hotel has been serving as the main venue for the festival. This festival with a difference has got the status of one of the largest festivals in Asia.
The Jaipur Literature/Writers Festival held every year in the months of January, is attended by ace authors from around the world. The sight of the booker awardees and Nobel laureates are common here and hearing a word of wisdom from them is no ordinary experience. The place is ideal for come face to face with the leading names in the literary world.
There are great minds behind the start of this festival. With Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple, both writer of fame as directors, the festival is getting popularity with every passing year. What started as a part of Jaipur Heritage International Festival has now grown up to become self standing festival attracting writers from around the world to express their opinion. The most interesting part of the event is that there is no entry fee charged from visitors attending the event.
Perhaps it is the only event in India where one can spot literary legends like J M Coetzee, Orhan Pamuk, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Junot Diaz, Martin Amis, Jay McInerney and others expressing their opinions.
