The volume of data that we generate everyday in the worldwide web is huge and provides scopes for multiple business analysis and corresponding attributes. Similarly the data storage and real time access to data has also become important and in-memory computing is another revolutionary steps that opens great array of possibilities for what we can do with this volume of data. While gaining access to the data and the time required for it can be crucial for some really proactive sectors and business purposes, in-memory computing or also commonly referred as in-memory database helps to decrease the complications in accessing data and consequently requires less time. Let us have a look at the technical definition of the term and how it is employed across various sectors.

Definition of In-Memory Computing

Normally we save our data in the disk space of the computer, but when in the data is stored on the main memory or random access memory database it becomes quicker to fetch the data and employ it for specific purposes. This practice of using the random access memory (RAM) of dedicated servers instead of disk space on the computers is designated as in-memory computing. For some sectors for which quick response time proves critical to get business output, in-memory computing comes as a blessing. Further development in the technology gave birth to more sophisticated data compression for smarter server memory management and ability of sharing computing sessions in real time. As soon as the in-memory computing came it soon became a real beneficial tool for many key sectors that were just waiting for such quick responsive computing technology. Soon enough many large IT companies came with their dedicated servers to cater in-memory computing to the clients. MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MemSQL, SAP HANA, Oracle Exalytics, Oracle Coherence, Datablitz, Polyhedra are few of the prominent product names known for in-memory computing.

3 Important reasons why In-Memory computing is the obvious future

Many companies including bigwigs like IBM, SAP are predicting in-memory computing to replace disk space dependence completely in the coming years. Though it sounds over optimistic for ears still not tuned to the new reality of computing, it is nevertheless a fact. We can present here 3 most important reasons why in-memory computing is going to replace the disk storage as an obvious technology.

  1. The real time quicker data sharing would be more demanding
  2. Who can disagree with that? It is just the imminent truth that we are entering in a computing environment that would make many of our laid back approach outdated and ask for quicker, faster response in real time. That is the future of IT and also the future of business and so in-memory computing is just the next big sweep waiting for our applause.

  3. RAM is already cheaper and would be even more cheaper with time
  4. One major factor that played an important contributing role behind the onset of in-memory computing is the RAM or random access memory being cheaper. That price trend is continuing with more and more enterprises are coming off their initial reluctance of altering their storage to in-memory.

  5. Power friendliness is really a factor too

You always have been lenient on the question of power consumption and IT strategy playing a role in saving electricity, but believe me it is increasingly becoming an issue or considerable prominence. In-memory computing according to all estimates at least helps to decrease power used by a computer. As IBM categorically showed that in-memory consumes 99% lower electricity than regular spinning disks of your computer memory.
