PHP SQL Query Where Clause

This example illustrates how to create and execute the sql query with where clause.

To understand how to display the result returned  from the sql query execution, we have created whereClause.php page. First, connection from database is created using mysql_connect("hostName", "userName", "Password"), database is selected by mysql_select_db("databaseName", connectionObject). Now, query "SELECT * FROM employee WHERE designation='programmer" is executed using mysql_query() method to select only those employees who have programmer designation in the table "employee".

Table: employee

Source Code of whereClause.php

<?php
  mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "root") or die(mysql_error());
  mysql_select_db("test") or die(mysql_error());

  $data = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM employee WHERE designation='programmer'
    ORDER BY salary ASC
") or die(mysql_error());
  Print "<table border cellpadding=3>";

  while($info = mysql_fetch_array($data)){
    Print "<tr>";
    Print "<th>Name:</th> <td>".$info['name'] . "</td> ";
    Print "<th>Designation:</th> <td>".$info['designation'] . "</td> ";
    Print "<th>Salary:</th> <td>".$info['salary'] . "</td> ";
  }
  Print "</table>";
?>
