Gives a couple of quick ways to run PHP and MySQL on your computer without spending too long.
Tutorial Details:
J-Tutorials v2.0
This tutorial is optional, you could just use a webserver, uploading your files through an FTP program. If you are serious about learning PHP, I would reccomend using this tutorial though. It makes life easier.
OK, so why should you install PHP on your computer?
Well, it will save you uploading everything. All you need to do is put something in a folder on your computer. Therefor, it is much faster. Also, you will have complete control. It will be yours to put whatever you want on.
Right, so lets get to it. First of all you need to install a program on your computer to allow it to use PHP. Now there are lots of things you can install to do this, but I have a few that I have picked out.
Programs
EasyPHP (I use this one)
UniServer (I have used this one)
They both do pretty much the same thing, I use the first one because I find it easier to manage. Anyway, download one of them, and install it somewhere. It doesnt matter where. Then carry on with the tutorial. If you installed EasyPHP, go to the EasyPHP section, if you installed UniServer, go to the UniServer section.
EasyPHP
OK, so you've installed it. EasyPHP autostarts and you get a screen asking about updating. Say yes to it. Then you are on the main screen. In the task bar at the bottom, you will see an 'E' with a flashing red light. This means EasyPHP has started. You will see two buttons at the top. Apache and MySQL. Apache should be on, but MySQL won't be. Start it by clicking on the button and clicking start.
Now look at the apache button again. To the left of it there is the EasyPHP symbol. Click on it and go to configuration. Then select EasyPHP. You can set it so the server starts up when you start your computer. Then you won't have to mess around starting it.
Right so now your pretty much done. Have a mess around with it, have a look at the documentation. Oh, and put the files you want to display in the 'www' folder, and then go to http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost. You will be able to see them then.
