Tutorial: Updated Hardware Certification Test Suite Available for Download

Version 2.4 of the HCTS is now available. Use it to certify your hardware on the Solaris 9 Operating System (and updates) and the Solaris 10 OS, 32-bit and 64-bit environments.

Tutorial Details:

Hardware Certification Test Suite (HCTS) - Version 2.4

The Hardware Certification Test Suite (HCTS) is the application and set of test suites used to test your hardware to verify that it is compatible with the Solaris OS on x86 platforms. Using this test suite, you can certify your system or component for use with the Solaris OS on x86 platforms. In January 2005, Sun released HCTS 2.4, which replaces the previous HCTS 2.3 version.

To certify your system or controller, download HCTS, run the automated and manual tests, and submit the test results to Sun for audit.

Click Here for more information about the HCTS 2.4 application and to download the HCTS 2.4 package.

Sun has a new policy regarding forward compatibility. Sun no longer requires a re-certification for each major release of the Solaris OS. Please see Statement of Policy for a detailed description of this policy.

Systems Hardware Certification Program

The Systems Hardware Certification Program is designed to help system manufacturers demonstrate that their x86 systems, servers, motherboards, and related components are compatible with the Solaris OS on x86 platforms.

Level 1 Systems Hardware Certification enables system manufacturers to certify their systems and motherboards at Level 1 and be eligible to be included in the Solaris OS Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) as Test Suite Certified. Level 1 system certification currently includes eight test cases and runs for approximately 25 hours.

Level 2 Systems Hardware Certification enables system manufacturers to certify their systems and motherboards at Level 2 and be eligible to be included in the Solaris OS Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) as Test Suite Certified. Level 2 certification is more rigorous than Level 1 certification. Level 2 system certification includes the same test cases as Level 1 system certification, but Level 2 tests run longer and put more stress on the system. Level 2 system certification runs for approximately 122 hours.

Controller Hardware Certification Program

The Controller Hardware Certification Program enables IHVs to certify that the controllers supported by the device drivers under test are compatible with the Solaris OS on x86 platforms.

Level 1 Controller Hardware Certification enables IHVs who have developed controllers to certify their controllers at Level 1 and be eligible to be included in the Solaris OS Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) as Test Suite Certified. Level 1 controller certification typically runs for approximately 4 hours. See specific test plans for more information.

Level 2 Controller Hardware Certification enables IHVs who have developed controllers to certify their controllers at Level 2 and be eligible to be included in the Solaris OS Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) as Test Suite Certified. Level 2 certification is more rigorous than Level 1 certification and puts more stress on the hardware. Level 2 controller certification typically runs for approximately 72 hours. See specific test plans for more information.
