the GNU General Public License . That means it's free and it's based on Open Source software.
Once installed K12LTSP lets you boot diskless workstations from an applications server.
All applications run on the terminal server. Workstations are "thin." They have no software or hard drives. Thin-clients are perfect for schools because they are easy to install and require little maintenance. They are reliable and immune to malicious tampering and viruses.
Overview of a K12LTSP Open Source Lab
A default K12LTSP installation uses two ethernet cards; eth0 and eth1. One card connects the server to your school network. The other card creates a private network for terminals (thin-clients). Your server and eth1 act as a gateway for the terminals to the Internet and the rest of your network. eth1 is configured to get its ip address via DHCP. A private DHCP server runs on eth0 to give IP numbers to terminals. This configuration is flexible in that you can easily have multiple LTSP servers in your building all sharing the same default configuration. Servers are "plug and play" with little or no configuration required. It only takes about 20 minutes to be up and running.
We are providing the free downloadable version of K12LTSP 4.2.0, which is distributed under GNU public license. You have to pay only for the CD and S&H (Shipping and Handling) charges. Many useful applications are included that makes it very useful.

K12LTSP "meta" packages are now included. These are "empty" packages that contain dependancies for all of the packages in a particular group. This makes it easy to install a group of packages by specifying only the meta package. For example "yum install k12ltsp-core" would install off the core K12LTSP packages. Meta packages included are:
k12ltsp-core
k12ltsp-education
k12ltsp-education-devel
k12ltsp-extras
k12ltsp-scripts
k12ltsp-utils
The up2date and yum packages no longer need to be modified to included the K12LTSP repository information. These config files are now in the fedora-release and k12ltsp-release packages.
The up2date and yum repositories are now mirrored at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville
The default web browser has changed from Mozilla to Firefox.
Firefox as been modified to use the K12LTSP bookmarks.
The LTSP Build Environment (ltsp_i386-lbe) is no longer included on the install CDs in order to free up some space.
Use apt, up2date, or yum if you wish to install it.
Currently we are providing K12LTSP 4.2.0.
