  Tutorial: Quaqua Look And Feel

Quaqua Look And Feel The Quaqua Look and Feel (Quaqua) is an implementation of Apple's Aqua Human Interface Guidelines in Java. Quaqua is not yet a self-contained look and feel. As Quaqua matures, it provides a steadily growing number of user elements

Tutorial Details:

Fixes for Inconsistencies
Quaqua aims at fixing inconsistencies between Apple's Aqua Swing Look and Feel and Apple's Human Interface Guidelines.

The fixes focus on visual design and on behaviour of the user interface elements.

The biggest inconsistency fix is probably the FileChooserUI. Quaqua's file chooser roughly matches the design of native Cocoa file dialogs. Where as Apple's Swing Look and Feels are way off.

The intention is to give an immediate 'pain relief' to software developers, in the hope that these fixes won't be necessary in future versions of Apple's Java Virtual Machine.

Alternative Designs
In addition to the fixes, Quaqua gives you alternative designs for some user interface elements.

For tabbed panes and file choosers, Quaqua supports both the Jaguar design of Mac OS X 10.2 and the Panther design of Mac OS X 10.3.
