Then I\'ll deploy the GUI clients to the desktop with Java Web Start. An improved Java Web Start is now bundled with JDK 1.5. In a corporate environment where the target machines are well known (consistent), Java Web Start is especially appropriate. See the DualRpcServer starter applications for production-ready, Java Web Start-ready code for building your own Swing and SWT rich client applications. Where the end user machine is less well known, an installer such as Nullsoft\'s NSIS, ZeroG or similar product may be a good choice. With an installer you could even install your own JRE along with the client.

When designing a rich client application it is important to keep the GUI client as lean as possible. The GUI client handles data input, display and navigation. A tiny amount of client side data validation and manipulation is probably acceptable. All business logic should reside on the server and be encapsulated behind a well-defined application/business API.
