Tutorial Details:

There is also some terminology that is common in the cryptographic community
* Cleartext - the original information in unencrypted form (also called plaintext)
* Ciphertext - an encrypted text, which must be decrypted before it makes any sense
* Encryption - the process of converting a cleartext into a ciphertext
* Decryption - the process of converting a ciphertext back into cleartext
* Key - the information needed encrypt/decrypt a cleartext or ciphertext

Encryption and decryption are what most people associate with cryptography.
Encryption and decryption are done using a particular algorithm. There are many encryption and decryption algorithms and they have different strengths and weaknesses. One of the challenges of cryptography for the non-cryptographer is understanding which algorithm is best suited to the situation at hand.
