  Tutorial: Application Designer for Medium Business

A bundled package that enables developers with no Java skills to create database-driven Web applications on WebSphere Application Server.

Tutorial Details:

Application Designer for Medium Business bundles together two technologies: a pre-release of Lotus® Component Designer 6.0 and WebSphere® Application Server, Community Edition (WAS CE) 1.1.

Lotus Component Designer is an Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that helps non-Java developers to create database-driven Web applications for an IBM WebSphere Portal 6 environment. The use of Application Designer for Medium Business enables Lotus Component Designer to be deployed to WAS CE. In addition, Lotus Component Designer provides four sample applications to help users get started quickly and understand what a typical application looks like.

How does it work?

The basic steps necessary for using Application Designer for Medium Business to create a database-driven Web application are as follows:
* Using the XML Schema visual editor, create an XML schema for the database that the application will use.
* Create the main page for the application.
* Visually bind particular fields to the XML schema.
* Create subsequent pages.
* Visually associate events to links and buttons.
* Deploy the application to the server.
