Good UML Books
Tutorial Details:
VB6 UML Jake Sturm 581 pages Wrox Press Inc; ISBN 1861002513. Yes, another book with VB in the title. But this guy does a pretty good job of demonstrating what can be done with UML diagrams and how the work can both save you from implementation mistakes and be translated into code. I'd say, if you have not already implemented at least a handful of UML designs, this book could prove helpful. I also found his insights into how to work around VB's lack of inheritance (and other VB vs. VFP differences) helpful.
Beware that the reviews of the recent UML books by Booch, Rumbaugh, and Jacobsen are lukewarm at best. I must say I completely agree. It looks to me like these guys have gone from being innovators to toeing the company line and, that company being Rational Software, that's hardly admirable.
Applying Use Cases - A Practical Guide, by Geri Schneider and Jason P. Winters with foreward by Ivar Jacobson. Addison-Wesley, ISBN 0201309815. Easy to read, practical book with examples of writing actual use cases for a real-life application.
UML Distilled - Applying the Standard Object Modeling Language by Martin Fowler
Very abbreviated and quite technical, but an excellent overview.
