  Tutorial: P2P Filesharing Software DC++ - active & passive modes Tutorial

DirectConnect has two modes. What are the differences and how to get to the better one? How to forward ports on a Linux server?

Tutorial Details:

Software DC++ - active & passive modes

The passive mode is used when connecting to a hub from behind a firewall, a router and in other similar situations. It is most commonly used by the users of LANs (Local Area Network) and cable connections.

The passive mode is limited. When in it, you can only connect to the users in the active mode which obviously means you will be able to find and download less. Fortunatelly, there is a little trick allowing you to actually remain in the passive mode but act as if you were in the active mode.

What is the Active Mode?
You can use the active mode when you have an external IP or the appropriate port is forwarded on your Internet providing server.

This mode is not limited. You can connect to both users in the active and in the passive modes.

How to be active from behind a firewall?
How can you connect to all the DC users even if you are in a LAN, have a cable connection and so on?
