Quick guide to build a simple hitcounterwithout database access.

Tutorial Details:

Build a hit counter without database access

This guide will teach you how to build a hit counter for your website and wrap it up in a custom tag. First of all check if your host has cffile enabled otherwise this solution will not work for you. Before you go further lets think about what we are trying to accomplish here.

Needed :
A variable that hold's up the number of page views.

An application variable you think ?
You can actually use an application variable, but since an application riables have a limited life time. It is of no real purpose in this case.(meaning they will get lost and you will have to start over 'from zero page views')

So a database then ?
Yes that would work but I am not going into much detail here. Simply stated you would write a query that increments a column value on every page request. If you are interested in using a database for a page counter just send me a note and I will write a tutorial about it.
