What is Search Engine?

Search engine is a computer program for searching the documents for specified keywords and displaying the documents that matches the keyword. These days search engines operators on the Internet and it create the index of the web sites available on the internet. Anyone can visit the search engine and search the information.

Search engines is complex program which consist many subprograms to perform the specific functions. These subprograms are:

Crawler
Crawler is also known as spider, it is responsible for getting the pages from the web and storing into repository
Indexer
Indexer reads the pages from the repository, reads the content of the page and then adds the page into search engine index.
Search interface
Search interface provides the user friendly view to search the web pages from the search engine repository. When use specifies the keywords it searches the page from the index and depending on the relevancy it displays the results in the search result page.

Google.com: Google is the probably the largest search engine.

Yahoo.com: Yahoo is also a big search engine but is appears to be not as large as google.

Teoma.com: Its is also a large search engine.

Earlier Yahoo was once considered as the best search engine on the internet. Yahoo was controlling much of the market of not only search, but also news, shopping, and most other aspects that have grown on the internet. As of now, Yahoo has seemed to have fallen off at least in the realm of search technology. Now ad days the search engine leader is Google, with many services like image search, email, chat, bogglers etc.

Google provides best clutter free search result, Google is simple yet powerful search engine. Google is the Internet search engine king.
