Open Source E-mail Server

  1. MailWasher Server Open Source
MailWasher Server is an open-source, server-side junk mail filter package for businesses. MailWasher Server differs from other open-source server anti-spam packages in that it offers a polished, well-integrated web interface and built-in quarantine management facilities. MailWasher Server is easier for administrators to set up and manage and easier for users to use the product on a day-to-day basis. MailWasher Server fully supports Windows Server/Exchange Server systems, in addition to Unix-based systems such as Linux and Solaris.
  2. Webmail client, Mail server
Innovating within the email server industry since 1998, Calacode develops @Mail, a robust integration of Open Source Technology, Unix, Strong Encryption, and industry-standard Groupware Features in a centralized messaging platform. The software can be used as a WebMail interface to an existing mailserver, a complete Email Server platform, or an Exchange replacement.Seamlessly unifying messaging components, @Mail simplifies migration from outdated legacy systems. Filtering out the white noise of growing open-source options, @Mail is a reliable and complete messaging platform that includes full source code for complete control.
  3. POPFile: Open Source E-Mail Solution
POPFile is a program that has often been labeled as little more than a spam filtering software. In reality, POPFile is much more than this. The origins of POPFile are not really all that mysterious. It is an open source e-mail classification tool designed to give you more control over your preferred e-mail client and its own e-mail sorting options. The application is designed to work hand-in-hand with POP3 e-mail accounts; however, with new features being added all the time, this could change or evolve as the need arises. IMAP users also have a module which can be added if the user so desires. It is experimental and not promised to work as expected.

  4. Mobile Web Server
The connectivity solution consists of a gateway that runs on a computer on the Internet and a so called connector that runs on the mobile device. Together with an appropriate DNS configuration they provide a mobile device with a global name (URL) in the operator networks of today. By configuring DNS, the lookup a browser makes, for the URL of a particular mobile website, resolves to the IP address of the gateway computer. When the browser subsequently sends an HTTP request to the gateway, it is relayed to the mobile device where it is delivered to the web server. To all parties concerned - the person browsing, the browser, the web server on the mobile device, and the person who owns the mobile device - it seems as if there would be a direct connection from the browser to the mobile web server.
  5. Open-source server software
Sun is considering making its Java Enterprise System server software open-source, John Loiacono, Sun's executive vice president of software, said in a conference call with reporters Tuesday. "It's something we're looking at closely right now. It's absolutely in our interest to go pursue that." As expected, Sun launched its OpenSolaris.org Web site Tuesday, released its Dynamic Tracing component of the upcoming Solaris 10 as open-source software, and announced that more than 1,600 patents will be available for unfettered use--a leapfrog over IBM, which two weeks ago offered use of 500 patents to open-source programmers.
  6. Open Source Streaming Server
Welcome to Darwin Streaming Server, the open source version of Apple's QuickTime Streaming Server technology that allows you to send streaming media to clients across the Internet using the industry standard RTP and RTSP protocols. Based on the same code base as
QuickTime Streaming Server, Darwin Streaming Server provides a high level of customizability and runs on a variety of platforms allowing you to manipulate the code to fit your needs. While sharing the same code base as QuickTime Streaming Server, Darwin Streaming Server is an open source project intended for developers who need to stream QuickTime and MPEG-4 media on alternative platforms such as Windows, Linux, and Solaris, or those developers who need to extend and/or modify the existing streaming server code to fit their needs. Darwin Streaming Server is only supported by the open source community and is not eligible for technical support from Apple. Apple hosts a number of email discussion lists for Darwin Streaming Server users and developers to share ideas and discuss deployment scenarios.
  7. Open source Lemonade to beat BlackBerry
The never-ending spate of lawsuits between companies like Research In Motion and Visto could soon be over, thanks to a mobile e-mail standard which might support an open source alternative. Things are about to happen rather quickly, and it should prove interesting for people like Visto and RIM," said Will Sheward, vice president of marketing at Isode, a long-established specialist in standards-based software for e-mail and directories. In June, Isode will launch a new version of its standards-based e-mail server software, which will support mobile e-mail, and should be immune from legal attack.
  8. Choosing Open Source
Developed by Commons and the APC, this guide provides civil society organizations with both an introduction to open source and a framework for finding software that will meet their needs. Designed to be accessible and helpful to non-profit managers and others responsible for high level technology decisions. Open source software holds a great deal of potential for civil society organizations. The most obvious benefit of open source software is free to use, something that is attractive to organizations on a tight budget. However, it also offers much more: better security, increased flexibility and the ability to adapt software to meet local and organizational needs.
  9. Announcing Exchange Server 2007 Beta 2
Exchange Server 2007 helps you manage a reliable messaging system with built-in protection against spam and viruses, while providing people throughout your organization with anywhere access to e-mail, voicemail, calendars, and contacts from a wide variety of devices. For most businesses today, e-mail is the mission-critical communications tool that allows their people to produce the best results. This greater reliance on e-mail has increased the number of messages sent and received, the variety of work getting done, and even the speed of business itself. Amid this change, employee expectations have also evolved. Today, employees look for rich, efficient access-to e-mail, calendars,
attachments, contacts, and more--no matter where they are or what type of device they are using.
  10. OpenSource ASP.NET webmail application
SharpWebMail is an ASP.NET webmail application that is written in C#. It uses a POP3 or IMAP servers as the mailstore and sends mail through a SMTP server. It is very simple to configure (only a few settings in the web.config file). You can compose HTML messages, search your inbox, read complex mime messages, have multiple address books and much more.
    There are some Features follow:
    * Very simple to configure (only a few settings in web.config).
    * Multiple POP3 and IMAP servers can be configured to read mail from. The selection of the server is based in login (username) information or (optionally) by the user.
    * Tries to minimize the queries to the server caching message info (only headers).
    * Authentication is handled by your email server (no additional databases needed).
    * Sends mail through a SMTP server (chosen from the login information of your users). Including support for SMTP AUTH.
    * HTML editor (FCKeditor) for composing mails.
  11. Open Source Apache HTTP Server 2.2.0 Released
The Apache Software Foundation and The Apache HTTP Server Project have announced the release of version 2.2.0 of the Apache HTTP Server. The Foundation says it considers this release to be the best version of Apache available, and encourages users of all prior versions to upgrade. Apache 2.2 offers numerous enhancements, improvements, and performance boosts over the 2.0 codebase. This release includes the Apache Portable Runtime (APR) version 1.2.2 bundled with the tar and zip distributions. The APR libraries libapr, libaprutil, and (on Win32) libapriconv must all be updated to ensure binary compatibility and address many known platform bugs.
  12. Integrated Open Source Solutions
Adisoft provides corporations of all sizes with software and services to manage the processing of expense reports for corporate travel and entertainment. They offer web-based expense reporting software, standalone expense reporting software, web-based expense audit software, feeds from the expense database to your corporate system, payment software, and a complete range of support and customization agreements. Increase control, reduce costs, and have satisfied employees with Adisoft's software and services. Adisoft's Expense Submittal System (ESS) is an open source Web-based expense reporting system for corporate travelers and accounting departments.
  13. Confidence in Open Source Growing
According to our November, 2002 survey of 375 IT professionals, the IT community is growing more comfortable with the open-source development model, reporting that open source will dominate as their Web server application platform and server operating system in five years. The majority (64%) of companies surveyed are using open source, most frequently as a server operating system and for Web development. CIOs say the greatest benefits from using open source are lower total cost of ownership, lower capital investment and greater reliability and uptime compared to their existing systems. IT executives report that open source provides greater flexibility, control and faster, cheaper application development. All things equal, the majority of IT executives surveyed said they would choose open source for a new implementation over a proprietary vendor solution.
  14. Service Level Monitor Solution
An Internet service provider with operations in New Mexico and California suffered a system outage as a result of a hacker attack. While service in the New Mexico headquarters was restored within hours, the IT team did not realize an email server in California was also down. Once they were aware of the problem the email server was restored in a few hours. To avoid the same situation reoccurring DSL Designs used TestMaker and TestNetwork to implement an email monitoring system. DSL Designs used PushToTest Global Services to write an intelligent test agent that periodically sends an email message through the DSL Designs email system. The same agent periodically checks and opens the email messages. When a preset number of email messages are not received then the test agent alerts the DSL Designs system managers that an outage is happening.
  15. Struts, an open-source MVC implementation
This article introduces Struts, a Model-View-Controller implementation that uses servlets and JavaServer Pages (JSP) technology. Struts can help you control change in your Web project and promote specialization. Even if you never implement a system with Struts, you may get some ideas for your future servlets and JSP page implementation. Kids in grade school put HTML pages on the Internet. However, there is a monumental difference between a grade school page and a professionally developed Web site. The page designer (or HTML developer) must understand colors, the customer, product flow, page layout, browser compatibility, image creation, JavaScript, and more.
