The Distribution Release of VLOS 1.2.1
The developers of VLOS (formerly Vidalinux
Desktop OS) have released an updated version of their user-friendly distribution
based on Gentoo Linux.

VLOS 1.2.1 Project is an openly-developed project designed by Vidalinux.com,
open for general participation, This Project is based on Gentoo Linux and
anaconda graphical installer from RedHat Inc.

o Minimum Supported Configuration
o AMD Athlon XP or Pentium 4 compatible processor, 1.0 Ghz; 10-GB hard disk;
256-MB RAM; 800x600 screen resolution
o Recommended Configuration
o AMD Athlon XP or Pentium 4 compatible processor, 2.0 Ghz or faster; at least
20-GB hard disk; at least 512-MB RAM; 1024x768 screen
resolution or better
== Overview of This Release ==
The following list includes brief summaries of some of the more significant
aspects of VLOS 1.2:
o VLOS 1.2.1 is now based on the 2.6.13 kernel, which includes improvements in
many different areas, including reiser4 support, wireless drivers, scalability
and performance. Also this version include GCC 4.0.1 with support for NPTL and
GLIBC 2.3.5.
o In this release, anaconda installer has been updated to Fedora Core 5, wich
include a new installation progress more faster than the previous, udated to
xorg 7.0 and support for LVM2 partitions.
o VLOS 1.2.1 includes GNOME 2.12.1 and KDE-3.4.3 two complete desktops
environment that include useful applications, a web browser, a text editor, a
terminal program, a calculator, and many others are included.
o VLOS 1.2.1 includes Gdesklets 0.3.5.2 and costumized desklet-starterbar an
applet that adds a desktop-based quicklaunch icon bar identical to the dock in
OS X.
o VLOS 1.2.1 includes enhance automounting support for USB pen drives, Firewire
external drives and digital cameras.
