SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3 RC4 is
available now
SimplyMEPIS release candidate, version 3.4-3 rc4 adds some last minute fixes. We plan for this to be FINAL. Further changes will be handled with in-line updates that will be available to everyone via the MEPIS pool. A typo was fixed that might help with non-root access to printers; meauto and the oscenter were modified to explicitly set the WEP key mode; udev was updated and this fixed most of the problems with floppy detection; Kplayer's file associations in KDE were minimized so Kplayer would not interfere with the other multimedia plugins.
We plan for this to be FINAL. Further changes will be handled with in-line updates that will be available to everyone via the MEPIS pool. Look for rc4 in the testing subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and public mirrors. For up to 4 days.
A typo was fixed that might help with non-root access to printers. There was a major update of foomatic that should help with other lingering printer problems. Frozen-bubble had to be removed to make room for the new foomatic--it almost doubled in size.
Meauto and the oscenter were modified to explicitly set the WEP key mode. This fixed some problems using WEP encryption with wireless.
Udev was updated and this fixed most of the problems with floppy detection. But floppy unmount still does not work correctly due to a bug in the Debian release of KDE 3.4.3.
About SimplyMEPIS
SimplyMEPIS is available as a free download from public Linux mirrors. MEPIS subscribers also have access, sometimes early access, to MEPIS ISOs at the MEPIS subscribers ftp site. For a subscription or other products available directly from MEPIS, visit store.mepis.com.
Free Downloads
You can download testing and released versions of MEPIS for free from the mirror sites listed below. Usually the testing versions are in a testing directory and the released versions are in a released directory. Sometimes the mirrors are a bit behind the MEPIS Premium download site. Some mirrors get out-of-date from time to time. If you can't find a particular version at one site, it may be available at one of the other sites.
