Linux Distribution: Wolvix
Url: http://wolvix.org/
A Release Candidate for Wolvix Media Edition 1.0.4 is now out. This will hopefully be the first and only release candidate before the final release.
Linux Release Details:
Wolvix 1.1.0 Beta is available now
The beta version of Wolvix 1.1.0 'Cub' and 'Desktop' editions are finally ready. This release holds a lot of changes over the alphas. We have moved over to the latest version of the Linux-Live scripts (6.0.7) and the kernel has been updated to version 2.6.20.3. The new scripts features support for LZMA compressed modules, which reduce the size of the modules drastically, so there are a lot more packages included in the beta. Cub is almost as feature rich as the 1.0.5 'Hunter' edition. It now features Gnumeric, Kino, OGMRip and other new applications not found in the alpha. The 'Desktop' edition features everything found in 'Cub' plus lots of additional applications.
About Wolvix 1.1.0 Beta

This release holds a lot of changes over the alphas. We have moved over to the latest version of the Linux Live scripts (6.0.7) and the kernel has been updated to version 2.6.20.3. The new live scripts features support for lzma compressed modules, which reduce the size of the modules drastically, so there are a lot more packages included in the beta. Cub is almost as feature rich as the 1.0.5 Hunter edition. It now features Gnumeric, Kino, OGMRip and other new applications not found in the alpha. Desktop Edition features everything found in Cub plus lot's of additional applications such as OpenOffice, Evolution, GNUCash, Blender and many others. Desktop Edition also has an optional module with the latest NVIDIA drivers, which can be loaded at boot with the cheat code: 'wolvix load=geforce'.

Oithona has given the installers a major code make over and new features have been added to the Wolvix Control Panel, the install process is much smoother and more efficient now. The progress bar is not 100% accurate as of now, but this is just a minor cosmetic issue which will be addressed later.

A package repository is also online and ready to be used with the beta releases. Please keep in mind that the repository is also 'beta', the dependency checking is a bit off, meaning that sometimes you won't get all the packages which are required for an application and other times you'll get more than you strictly need. Also note that slapt-get/Gslapt is set up to use the Slackware 11.0 repository in addition to the Wolvix repository, so there are some packages which will be featured on both of them. The rule of thumb is to use the Wolvix packages (tagged 'wlv') over the Slackware packages. The Wolvix repository features GNOME 2.16.3 and KDE 3.5.6 plus a lot of other packages.
