| Lunar Linux 1.6.1 RC1 is available |
| 1.6.1rc1-i686 is released for general testing into the Lunar community. This ISO is an incremental update to 1.6.0 and features full updated packages, including kernel 2.6.18.2. This ISO is meant as a refresher for newer systems and new installs, reducing the time to get those updated to the latest packages and providing support for newer systems that require a more recent kernel for hardware support. The ISO has the same size and packages as the 1.6.0 one. -mm, -prepatch and -rc kernels were removed altogether from the build code, as they are too out-of-date for the general user. |
About Lunar Linux 1.6.1 RC1
Lunar Linux is a source based Linux distribution. It is built entirely by compiling source code, using custom optimizations.
It installs a complete bootstrap development system first. After telling the Lunar package manager which software will be required, it builds the entire system by downloading current source code and locally compiling an optimized system tailored toward the users specific needs. This should result in a lean and optimized operating system. On the downside, compiling a whole distribution from scratch may be time-consuming and complicate the task of keeping the packages up to date.

The ISO has the same size and packages as the 1.6.0 one. -mm, -prepatch and -rc kernels were removed alltogether fromt the build code, as they are too out-of-date for the general user. EFI boot support was enabled in the default kernel, allthough the ISO still uses syslinux and thus will need a compatible BIOS to boot afaics.
