String indexOf(String str, int fromIndex)

In this section, you will get the detailed explanation about the indexOf(String str, int fromIndex) method of String class. We are going to use indexOf(String str, int fromIndex) method of String class in Java. The description of the code is given below for the usage of the method.

Description of the code:

Here, you will get to know about the
indexOf(String str, int fromIndex) method through the following java program. In the program code given below, we have taken a String. To find the index of any string we have applied indexOf(String str, int fromIndex); method and then we have passed the Substring from the specified string with the index number in that to find its index starting from the specified index number as shown in the output. And if we take index number to be 23 then we get -1 as a result that shows the given index number doesn't exist in a string.

NOTE: This method returns the index of the first occurrence of the given substring, starting at the specified index within the string.

Here is the code of the program:

public class IndexOfStr {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    String s = "That was the breaking News";
    System.out.println(s);
    System.out.println("indexOf(News, 5) -> " + s.indexOf("News"5));
    }
  }

Output of the program:

C:\unique>javac IndexOfStr.java

C:\unique>java IndexOfStr
That was the breaking News
indexOf(News, 5) -> 22

C:\unique>javac IndexOfStr.java

C:\unique>java IndexOfStr
That was the breaking News
indexOf(News, 23) -> -1

C:\unique>
