As in the previous example of JavaScript array we have described how one can use the pop() method to implement the remove() method on the array elements. Now if we want to remove array element at the specified position then we can use the JavaScript array's splice() method. For removal of an element at the specified index position we have created a method removeByIndex(); who removes array elements at the provided index position.
| function removeByIndex(arrayName,arrayIndex){ arrayName.splice(arrayIndex,1); } |
In above lines of code we have defined the JavaScript function removeByIndex(arrayName,arrayIndex). It takes two arguments: first is the arrayObject at which removal is to be performed and second is the index position at which the splice method is to be performed.
Full example code of array remove by index in JavaScript is as follows:
javascript_array_remove_by_index.html
| <html> <head> <title> JavaScript array remove by index </title> <script type="text/javascript"> var arr = new Array(5); arr[0]="Rose"; arr[1]="India"; arr[2]="Technologies"; arr[3]="Pvt"; arr[4]="Ltd"; function removeByIndex(arrayName,arrayIndex){ arrayName.splice(arrayIndex,1); } document.writeln("Array before calling removeByIndex() method is =<b>"+arr+"</b></br>"); removeByIndex(arr,1); removeByIndex(arr,3); document.writeln("Array after calling removeByIndex() method is =<b>"+arr+"</b></br>"); </script> </head> <body bgcolor="#ddcdff"> <h2> JavaScript array remove element by index </h2> </body> </html> |
