These devices are mostly the tracking devices that help in keeping track of a vehicle and also record data related to that of the vehicle. They are also used by the drivers, to know exactly where they are headed or which can be the best possible route to their destination.

These tracking devices come pre loaded in most of the vehicles that are manufactured today though they can be installed from the outside if one doesn?t have it. These devices work in close coordination with the softwares that are used to store and display the data collected by the tracking devices.

Global Positioning System or best known by the acronym GPS is the most widely used tracking device that can be seen installed in cars, buses, metro, trucks and ships. However GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is also another tracking device that has recently come into use by vehicles. These devices work on the radio signals that are emitted by the satellites and are received by the receiver installed in the vehicle. They also use the nearby tower of the vehicle to pin point the position and generate the image of the surrounding of the vehicle. This helps the owner in tracking down the vehicle and helps the driver to get aware of the surrounding.

There are two types of tracking devices that are available in the market.

  1. Active Devices: These devices collect all the data related to vehicle and displays the same to the driver of the vehicle and to that of manger or owner who is sitting at far off place. These devices sent real time information and update the information regularly and have the facility to store them too.

  2. Passive Devices: These devices store data related to vehicle like that of speed, fuel usage, where the vehicle is heading, which route it has taken, where the halts were made, how long the halts were spade, was there any over speeding and many other. However all these data are stored in the system that can only be seen later one it has attached to the system that has softwares that can display the information.

Fleet management devices have become crucial for any person in fleet business who wants to thrive in the business.
