Temples in Agra

Besides being a city famous for its Mughal monuments, Agra does house a number of Temples which are also worth paying a visit to by any one traveling there. This famous Mankemeshwar temple of Agra is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located very near to the Agra Fort station at Rawatpura. There are some other temples too that are located in Agra other than the ones mentioned above.

Rawli maharaj Temple: This temple is located at the collectrate crossing and is one of the oldest temples in Agra.

Mahakal and Mahakali Temple: This temple is situated at the Sikandra crossing on the Sikandra Bodla Road. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali.ADS_TO_REPLACE_1

Mankameshwar Temple: This famous Mankemeshwar temple of Agra is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located very near to the Agra Fort station at Rawatpura. During the month of 'Sawan' or monsoons as according to the Hindu calendar thousands of devotees come here for worship, especially during Mondays. It is recommended that one visits during the evenings so that you can experience the soulful Aartis after sunset. Markets dating back to the time of the Mughal era surround this famous temple which is at the heart of the old township of Agra. This sacred temple is located at one of the four corners of Agra city beside the Yamuna and is an ancient temple.

Kailash Temple: The Kailash Temple at Sikandra is another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It stands close to the river Yamuna. The best time to visit this temple would probably be during the monsoon months of August and September when the Kailash Fair is organised. It is quite a sight as thousands of devotees flock in to the temple during the fair to show their respect to Lord Shiva.

Shri Agra Teerth: The main diet of this holy sight is Shri Chintamani Parshwanath in an interesting posture of Padmasana. It is situated on the banks of river Yamuna. The Jain trust known as Shri Chintamani Parshwanath bhagvan Shwetambar Jain Mandir Pedhi is responsible for managing this holy sight popular among Jains in particular.

Dayal Bagh Temple: This temple is situated at a distance of a little more than 10 kilometres from the main township of Agra at Dayal Bagh. This famous temple houses the 'Samadhi' or memorial of Guru Shiv Dayal Sahib also known as Swamiji Maharaj, the actual founder of the Radha Swami Faith. This temple is almost 110 feet in height and is believed to be nearly 150 years old. This magnificent structure is a great architectural marvel that has some of the most astonishing inlay marble work and impressive pillars. ADS_TO_REPLACE_3

Balkeshwar Temple: The Balkeshwar Temple is yet another temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated very close to the banks of the River Yamuna. It is at times better known as Balkeshwar Mahadev Temple and is an ancient temple of Shiva. 'Mahadev' is another name for Shiva and the name attached to the temple is itself a symbol of dedication to Shiva.

Prithvinath Temple: This temple is situated on the Agra-Jaipur Highway at Shahganj. It is an old temple and is worth a visit.

Shyam Ji Maharaj Temple: This temple is situated at the Bijlighar in Agra. What is worth noticing in this temple are the bhajans that are sung in dedication the various Hindu Gods. ADS_TO_REPLACE_4

Bageshwarnath Temple: This temple is situated on the northern fringes of the city on Ramratan Road. It is closely located to Raja Ki Mundi and is easily accessible from Agra's main township.

Mangleshwar Temple: This famous temple in Agra is known for its architectural wonders. It is located at Gokal Pura on the western side of the city.
